ENGINE OIL COOLING
efficient engine oil cooling avoids premature self destruction.

It is not just competition vehicles ilke Formula 1 race cars or Rally stars that need oil coolers to protect their engines from running at too high a temperature. Fast road cars, off roaders, tow cars and motor caravans with large, far from aerodynamic, heavy coach built bodies all put their engine under load, often for long periods in high ambient temperatures abroad! Even standard family cars being prepared for long continental tours which may include mountain ranges need help.

Oil cooling is universally adopted to protect the engines of competition cars, used for road rallies and race track events, as well as classic cars trying to cope with the extra heat of lower octane fuels and the stress of keeping up with modern motorway traffic! In fact any vehicle that has to work harder than normal.

Standard engine oil cooling systems include a 13 row oil cooler, hydraulic hose's made up to the length required for each individual vehicle and a machined aluminium sandwich block with supply/return threaded hose connectors to fit between the engine and the oil filter. (Allow for the oil filter to stand 1.25" (3Omm) further out from the engine block). If space is limited lower height, large diameter spin on canister filters may be available from your usual oil filter supplier or alternatively a dght angle supply/retum aluminium oil filter adapter may be available for your engine at addilional cost. (Contact Kenlowe technical services if in doubt!)

Hydraulic hoses are made up to your specific requirement - however thick hydraulic hoses that are too long can be just as embarrassing as hoses which are too short! Therefore whilst hose length's of popular vehicles will be on record it is recommended that you confirm the distance between the oil filter and the middle of the front of the radiator so that we can tailor make hoses to suit. Hoses will normally be supplied with straight threaded connections to attach to the filter sandwich block (swivel right angle can be specified) and right angle swivel connection for the oil cooler. (Straight can be specified if preferred!) Hose length's notified will normally be adjusted for one hose to be 6" (lSOmm) shorter and the other 6" (lSOmm) longer than your central dimension for a horizontal cooler mounting. Should you prefer to mount the cooler vertically please state when ordering so that both hoses can be supplied the same length!

THERMOSTAT CONTROL FOR ENGINE OIL COOLERS?
Engine oil can be over cooled during short journeys, light loads or cold winter conditions a thermostat controlling flow through the oil cooler avoids this. This extra cost option can be specified at a modest price when ordering - a wax stat thermostat valve similar to the principal used in the engine water thermostat is housed in a specially cast and machined cavity in the supply return 'sandwich plate' adaptor.

APPLICATIONS
PETROL ENGINES supply/return oil filter adapters are available for almost all mainstream petrol engines - to obtain a quotation state vehicle make, model, year, engine size and if relevant engine recognition name/number. DIESEL ENGINES are different with many incorporating a small engine cooler as standard. However with the advent of turbo diesels the scope for those engines to be used for caravan towing or heavy off roading can often mean that the standard 'token' engine oil cooling is not adequate! (Today's turbo diesels often produce the same potential power output as their petrol engined counterparts, however almost always they will get very hot and bothered when under load. e.g. Towing long haul , particularly uphill or during off road trialing etc. For caravan towcars or off roaders Kenlowe offer "secondary" engine oil coolers to go in series with the existing small oil cooler provision. This is often found as a plate cooler on the side of the engine block or a liquid to liquid heat exchange loop through the water radiatod kenlowe can make up hoses to llnk up with most systems however the existing oil pipe thread size of the connection needs to be identified and advised to kenlowe along wfth the lengths ofsupply/return hose to the Kenlowe secondary coolers proposed location
